Cleaning and polishing the Stumbling Stone mosaic in Friesstrasse

Encouraged by their teachers Julia Wilhelm and Holger Wunderling, students from the Franz-Oberthür school agreed to sponsor the Stumbling Stone mosaic whichwasinstalled in front of their school in 2019.

The 21 Stumbling Stones were laid in memory of forced labourers who were murdered in the special Gestapo prison in Friesstrasse.

Christina Burger und Alexander Kraus from the Stolpersteineinitiative first informed two classes in the school about the Stumbling Stone project and the fate of the forced labourers, both men and women. Afterwards, the students, teachers and members of the Stolpersteine initiative gathered in front of the Stumbling Stone mosaic.

After brief addresses by the Head of the school , Simone Aslanidis, the Cultural Director of the city of Würzburg, Benedikt Stegmayer, and by Benita Stolz, the coordinator of the Stolpersteine initiative, some of the students set to work to clean the mosaic. Now it shines like new.

The short ceremony was accompanied by music played by the saxophonist Dirk Rumig.
